More Valuable Information from Cardiac Stress Tests (23 June 05)

A recent article in the New England Journal reports that three findings on routine stress tests predict increased incidence of sudden death: a resting heart rate over 75, an increase to maximum rate of less than 90 over baseline, and a reduction in rate after one minute of rest of less than 25. We have now incorporated these findings into our reports to reflect the increased risk which these findings indicate.

If you are a male over 45, or a female over 55, and you're contemplating a marked increase in your exercise program, get a stress test first.
