Low-dose Aspirin and Women (8 Mar 05) A major article in the March 7 New England Journal of Medicine summarized a 10-year study of 40,000 women age 45 and older treated with 100 mg of aspirin every other day, or placebo. Although substantial evidence exists to show that men reduce their risks of stroke and heart attack from aspirin therapy, women have not been carefully studied until now. The results: women benefit from aspirin only after age 65. Before then, aspirin has no benefits. Therefore I am altering my Breakfast of Champions to reflect the latest research: aspirin is for all men, and women over 65.
